Sweet! Already one of my "new year's resolutions" is accomplished.
Wahoo! Chris was officially accepted to Penn State Medical School in Hershey, Pennsylvania! It feels good to see a clear future in front of us. No matter what happens with other medical schools, we know that we have a great school "in the hand."
But that doesn't free us of choices. What happens if we also get accepted to the University of Utah? Does the cost of tuition outweigh the prestige of the school? Should we stay in Utah or experience the East coast? Do we stay in Utah for medical school or come back for residency?
What do you think? What are the pros and cons of living out of state?
PROS of living out of state:
ReplyDelete-new experiences! it's crazy different on the east coast.
-new food
-new friends
-lots of missionary opportunities, chances for growth in many ways
-new places- tons of places to explore on the east coast, just a few hours from home
-you'll probably go back to utah someday, so i think it a pro to go somewhere new for a bit- it's an adventure
-great school, great program
-penn is gorgeous
-east coast fall is stunning
-he'll be a doctor so even if your student loan debt is higher, he will make big bucks and you can pay it off easy :)
-i have seriously loved being a little family on our own. i miss family and friends, but this adventure has brought us closer together and taught us reliance on each other. its made a big difference in the kind of adult and wife i am and i love it. i need orlando more, i trust him more, we are closer. and at the same time, i'm a much more independent mother/person. i feel like it helped me grow up and take control of my life, if that makes any sense.
-no sales tax in pennsylvania, hooray! great place to buy a car haha
-fireflies
CONS of living out of state:
-cost more- cost of living and school. being poor is hard and sometimes, especially in winter, it super sucks.
-being away from family and friends is hard. you'll get really homesick and when you're poor it's hard to go home as often as you want.
-missing family and friend things like baby blessings or births or baptisms or family reunions. {see above}
-wishing your family could see Olivia grow and learn
-being way out of your comfort zone
-no cafe rio out here
-serious lack of good mexican food too
-horrible winters over here- gray and icky for MONTHS
-is it humid in pennsylvania?
-it took a year for us to settle in and make friends and find a niche. and that gets lonely.
Am i too opinionated about this? I'm sorry, i tried to be unbiased! Good luck deciding!! you guys totally know what you're doing, you've got this :) Love you!
